Round Thirteen Player of the Week

What an awful round this week showcased.  The players must have had too much Christmas cheer or were checked out going into New Year’s celebrations, whatever the reason a lot of them were terrible.  No team scored over 100 points while six of the ten teams playing didn’t even make it to 80!  There were some good individual performances but many more shockers.

Dabster Award

Round Thirteen Dabster Award Winner
Liam Rush, Melbourne Tigers – 20 points (8/10 FG, 2/4 3P, 2/2 FT), 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 turnover.  ER – 25

Sometimes there are anomalies in these statistics, players that don’t look too flash on paper but when you dig deeper you see that the game they played was pretty damn good.  Rush is one of those players.  Only averaging 6.6 ER on the season, Rush went ballistic against the Blaze in their come from behind win.  His only misses were from outside the arc while grabbing 7 rebounds to help out on the boards.  Surprisingly he managed all of this in only 25 minutes.  Some say that Tragardh played better, putting up 25 points but when the round went as bad as this one did, there was bound to be someone from left field to stand up and get the gong.

Honourable mentions
Daniel Johnson (Adelaide) – 21 points, 14 rebounds.  ER – 23
Alex Loughton (Cairns) – 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals.  ER – 23
Mark Worthington (Gold Coast) – 17 points, 8 rebounds.  ER – 23
Cameron Tragardh (Melbourne) – 25 points, 6 rebounds.  ER - 23
Ian Crosswhite (Cairns) – 12 points (5/6 FG), 8 rebounds.  ER – 22
Luke Nevill (Perth) – 21 points, 7 rebounds.  ER – 22.

Another example of the poor performances of the round, as last round there five players over 25 ER while there was none this week.  Jerai Grant had 25 in one game but as he played two games his other performance knocked him out of the running.

10.   (8)  Cedric Jackson, New Zealand Breakers – 15.7

For his total of 5 ER points in his last game, Jacob Holmes lost a whopping one point on his season average, dropping two spots to number seven.  Jerai Grant continues his rise up the ranks as he sits at number six, his highest so far this season.

Zike Award
Round Thirteen Zike Award
The Entire New Zealand Breakers squad – 57 points (23/67 FG, 4/19 3P, 7/16 FT), 40 rebounds, 2 assists, 7 steals, 3 blocks and 24 turnovers.  ER:  32

Read that scorecard again.  34% FG, 21% 3P and 44% FT is almost comical while the stellar two assists also stands out.  As you could probably guess this was by far the worst team performance of the year.  Usually a point guard would want an assist to turnover ratio of at least two.  Not 0.083.  That is not a percentage, it’s an actual number.  The highest scoring player was Mika Vukona with 12 while their three stars (Cedric Jackson, Thomas Abercrombie and Gary Wilkinson) combined for seven.  I could write many, many more exaggerations about this performance but I will let the numbers speak for themselves.
