How about that, Wollongong won a game. Pulling themselves to within a game of Adelaide they must be feeling pretty happy with a split on the round. Coupled with the acquisition of Ayinde Ubaka I have a hunch that they will be out of the cellar soon enough. Onto the games it was a bit of a mixed bag this week. There were three games decided by six points or less while the other three were quite comfortable for the winning teams.
Dabster Award
Round Sixteen Dabster Award Winner
Mark Worthington, Gold Coast Blaze – 19 points (6/9 FG, 0/2 3P, 7/7 FT), 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 turnovers. ER – 27.
In their easy win over the freefalling Tigers, Worthington won the battle of the power forwards. Not only did he come close to a triple double, he kept Cameron Tragardh to only 10 points and 6 rebounds on a woeful 5/16 shooting. I’m surprised that he shot so well but when a player of Wortho’s talent is feeling it he can hit shots from just about anywhere.
Honourable mentions
Adam Gibson (Gold Coast) – 23 points, 7 rebounds. ER - 24
Gary Wilkinson (New Zealand) – 21 points, 7 rebounds. ER – 23
Todd Blanchfield (Townsville) – 15 points, 8 rebounds. ER - 22
Cedric Jackson (New Zealand) – 10 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds. ER – 21
Not the best week for individual performances with only four other players recording a score of over 20. However, there were a lot more players in double figures than usual which adheres to the old saying, ‘quantity over quality’.

Menga Award
Round Sixteen Menga Award Leader Board
1. (1) Julian Khazzouh, Sydney Kings – 21.1
2. (NR) Myron Allen, Melbourne Tigers – 19.0
3. (2) Diamon Simpson, Adelaide 36ers – 18.5
4. (5) Daniel Johnson, Adelaide 36ers – 17.4
5. (3) Cameron Tragardh, Melbourne Tigers – 17.3
6. (4) Jacob Holmes, Townsville Crocodiles – 17.3
7. (6) Jerai Grant, Sydney Kings – 17.3
8. (8) Cedric Jackson, New Zealand Breakers – 16.6
9. (9) Mark Worthington, Gold Coast Blaze – 16.6
10. (7) Kevin Lisch, Perth Wildcats – 16.4
Myron Allen bursts into the scene with his first game slotting into the second position. I wouldn’t get too excited until he has played a few more games Tigers’ fans but it looks nice to have two Melbourne players in the top five. The battle for the second best power forward in the league is heating up with Tragardh, Holmes and Grant all tied at 17.3, well behind Diamon Simpson.
Zike Award
Chris Warren, Adelaide 36ers – 31:25 minutes, 4 points (1/8 FG, 0/5 3P, 2/2 FT), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 turnovers. ER: -2
Warren sure did fill the stat sheet up, posting multiples in all but the blocks category. Too bad he went an atrocious 1/8 from the field as well as missing all five of his three pointers. Add in a massive five turnovers he definitely had a game to forget and was only of the main reasons why the 36ers were handsomely beaten. But hey, look on the bright side, he did hit both of his free throws.
