Who would have thought that the two worst teams in the league would pick up wins this week. More importantly, the Hawks have scraped themselves off the bottom of the ladder, being replaced by Adelaide. That is two wins on the trot for Wollongong and is only two wins behind Sydney for seventh (which sounds much better than third last). There were two outstanding individual performances this week and after the Gold Coast game I was sure Adris Deleon was going to win the Dabster Award but out of the blue it gets snatched away.
Dabster Award
Round Nineteen Dabster Award Winner
Oscar Forman, Wollongong Hawks – 29 points (11/12 FG, 7/7 3P, 0/0 FT), 7 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 0 steals and 0 turnovers. ER – 35
This kind of game doesn’t come around very often and should be savoured by everyone. Forman will be telling his grandchildren about this performance and with cause. Not only did he hit all of his seven three pointers and hit all but one of his twelve field goals, he did it against arguably the best team in the league in New Zealand. The Breakers had no answer for Oscar and his shooting totally outshone the fact that he didn’t get any assists, steals or blocks. I guess you can’t get any assists if you keep hitting shots. It is also equal highest score of the season so far.
Honourable mentions
Adris Deleon (Gold Coast) – 29 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. ER – 33
Diamon Simpson (Adelaide) – 19 points, 12 rebounds. ER - 22
Ian Crosswhite (Cairns) – 8 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists. ER – 22
Adam Gibson (Gold Coast) – 17 points, 9 assists and 3 rebounds. ER – 20
Deleon’s game was on Friday night and after that was finished I was sure that he was going to win the Dabster Award but along comes Forman to steal his thunder. Special note goes the Ian Crosswhite for again topping 20 without scoring in double figures.

Menga Award
Round Nineteen Menga Award Leader Board
1. (1) Julian Khazzouh, Sydney Kings – 20.8
2. (2) Myron Allen, Melbourne Tigers – 20.0
3. (3) Diamon Simpson, Adelaide 36ers – 17.9
4. (4) Daniel Johnson, Adelaide 36ers – 17.1
5. (6) Mark Worthington, Gold Coast Blaze – 16.9
6. (5) Jerai Grant, Sydney Kings – 16.6
7. (7) Cameron Tragardh, Melbourne Tigers – 16.5
8. (9) Jacob Holmes, Townsville Crocodiles – 16.4
9. (8) Cedric Jackson, New Zealand Breakers – 16.1
10. (10) Kevin Lisch, Perth Wildcats – 15.4
This time it is Melbourne having the bye so Allen and Tragardh don’t move on the charts. Hardly any movement this week as the biggest shaker was only one place so there really isn’t much to say this week.
Zike Award
Round Nineteen Zike Award Winner
Shawn Redhage, Perth Wildcats – 21:05 minutes, 2 points (1/9 FG, 0/2 3P, 0/0 FT), 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 4 turnovers. ER: -6
Redhage has been in a freefall since the first couple of rounds and this has to be rock bottom. That statline is absolutely atrocious and I think I can speak for everyone around that I hope he steps his game up because I really don’t think that the Wildcats can win it all unless Redhage starts to play on the level that I know he can.
