I’m starting to believe that the “NBL sucks” motto is becoming one of those tired quotes that are used by ignorant people trying to sound smart, like “Video games are for kids” and “Real men drive utes”. Because this weekend was a fantastic showing of what the league is capable of doing. From the pure scoring threats of Adris Deleon and Ben Madgen to the all around showcase of Cedric Jackson the haters should stop being smug and actually watch a game or follow the NBL for more than a week.
Dabster Award
Round Eight Dabster Award Winner
Cameron Tragardh, Melbourne Tigers – 1 game, 28 points (12/17 FG, 4/4 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers. ER: 28
After eight rounds we finally have our first multiple Dabster winners as Tragardh is taking his Tigers team on his shoulders as this is his second award in three weeks. Missing only five shots for the whole game he scored the most points of the round and the fourth highest total for the season. His team may have lost the game but Tragardh has well and truly staked his claim in the season MVP race.

It is the same top ten as last week which tells the story that there is a definite tier system at the moment and these guys are at the top. It is great to see that four of the top five players are Australians with Daniel Johnson making it 50% local product in the top ten.
Zike Award
Round Eight Zike Award
Drew Williamson, Perth Wildcats – 16:58 minutes, 3 points (1/8 FG, 1/7 3P), 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers. ER: -3
While there were five Wildcat players in double figures, Williamson had a night to forget. I mean laser surgery to burn out short term memory. Not only did he shoot a woeful 13% from the field he counteracted his good stats with two turnovers. He also didn’t go to the foul line which is not surprising as seven of his eight shots were three pointers. Not going to get fouled out there Drew. He does have good play in him though with an eleven ER game so let us hope that he goes back to that Drew next week.
